We have learned that louvered ventilators – similar to our Duo Therma – are currently available on the market at a considerably lower price than our uninsulated, insulated and thermal separation models of the Duo Therma (which are renowned for their versatility in the field of application and flexibility in terms of structural dimensions). This prompted the Brakel product development department to examine the possibilities of producing an economy version of the existing Duo Therma. This article explains a little more about the development process.
Characteristics of cheaper versions
The cheaper alternatives available on the market have two highly characteristic features:
- They are fitted with a universal flaps, which can be swiftly and efficiently assembled.
- The base / raised edge is insulated on the outside, then finished with a layer of bituminous or synthetic roofing material.
Principles for development
In seeking to develop the Duo Therma Economy, we aimed to achieve a price reduction of some 30 tot 40% in comparison to the existing Duo Therma, which would naturally affect the range of applicability and flexibility that are customary among our current models. The existing Duo Thermas are naturally to remain part of our range, however.
The following are the principles applicable for development of the Duo Therma Economy*:
- modifications to the flaps: horizontal (slightly curved) or
sloping
- two base options: base on raised edge or base
comprising raised edge
- single flap (Mono Therma) or dual flap (Duo Therma)
- insulated and uninsulated models
- and 12101-2 compliance, with the following
characteristics:
- WL 1500
- SL 0,125,250,500 and 750
- T-15°
- B300
- Re 1000 (=10,000 x natural ventilation and 1000 x fire ventilation)
- dimensions: 1000 x 1000 mm tot 2500 x 2500 mm
- operating systems: PB, M24, PB Failsafe
- flaps: insulated using 50 mm insulation material,
uninsulated, Isolux 16 mm SDP clear and opal
- base: insulated using 50 mm insulation material on the
exterior, uninsulated.
