Smoke and heat extraction ‘avoids’ victims and restricts damage during fire in Rivas shopping centre Madrid
At around 13.00 hours on 15 September, a major fire broke out in the Rivas shopping centre in Madrid. Thankfully, there were no victims and the amount of damage was limited, largely due to the smoke and heat extraction system which Brakel partner Tecresa installed in 2005.
The premises were immediately evacuated following the outbreak. Sizeable smoke clouds soon became visible throughout the surrounding area of Rivas shopping centre. Members of five fire brigades rushed to the scene to fight the fire. It took fourteen hours of their best efforts before the fire was finally under control.
Smoke and heat extraction system Tecresa both recommended and installed the smoke and heat extraction system in the shopping centre. The system comprised Luma top-hung windows, Eura louver ventilators and smoke screens.
Compliments from the fire brigade No one was injured (despite the time of day that the fire occurred: lunchtime!) and the amount of damage was limited, largely thanks to this smoke and heat extraction system. Fact is that the system enabled the fire brigade to fight the fire effectively. Repairs to the shopping centre have already reached an advanced stage. Brakel supplied replacements for the top-hung windows to Tecresa in early December. The original Luma top-hung windows – still standing open – are clearly visible in the film footage enclosed.
And it is also certainly worth mentioning that Tecresa received compliments from the fire brigade for the highly adequate operation of the smoke and heat extraction system! |
