Palacio de Comunicaciónes is one of the most famous buildings in the centre of Madrid. It was designed by architect Antonio Palacios and built in 1909. At first it was used as a post office. Since 2007 it hosts the headquarters of the mayor of Madrid. The building was renovated in 2008/2009. Most striking is the transformation of the inner court called the Village Hall. This inner court sizes 2,600 square metres and is completely roofed over with glass. Of course smoke and heat ventilation has been taken into account. It was not an easy job because everything had to be tailor-made. A masterly example of partnership between Tecresa and Brakel.
Mr. Francisco Martinez Puerto, sales director of Tecresa: “Initially our customer only asked for smoke evacuation because the building was climatised. At the last moment our principle wanted that the 89 triangular ventilation windows could also be used for daily ventilation.”

“This project was far from standard. Aesthetics were of utmost importance and the smoke ventilation windows had to fit exactly into the design of the glass roof. It was not allowed to disturb the architectural transparent glass roof in any way. We could not have made this prestigious project without the help of Brakel. Each of the 89 ventilation windows, type Lumera, has different measurements. The Lumera has slim profiles and controls that are hidden in the frame. Good communication and precise drawings are a must. But that was no problem because Brakel has a lot of experience, the right technical solutions and the know-how. Brakel is the best in de market”, says Francisco Martinez.

He continues: “we have been working with Brakel for quite some time now and the contacts are good. The specialists of Brakel meet us in Spain or we come to Holland, for example at the yearly Customer Days”. An example of true partnership.
