Local operation SHEV systems

Local operation of electric smoke & heat extraction systems with EN12101 certificate

Smoke & heat extraction systems are generally centrally controlled. However, there is now an operating system on the market which can be used to control these systems locally. This can yield considerable benefits in the area of cabling and group control.

This new – type RWD 1a – local control system developed at Grasl, is equipped with an integrated energy & emergency power supply system. The RWD 1a was designed specifically for the control of smoke & heat extraction systems which are operated by 24V DC servo motors.

Cabling and connection
The use of central switchboards and large numbers of ventilators also entails laying cables – with relatively thick cores – which can prove quite a considerable cost factor. The application of local control is therefore certainly worth consideration, as each group has its own input for an automatic smoke detector. This means that it is not necessary to install control cables (in Germany, this is governed by the MLAR, or Muster-Leitungsanlangenrichtlinie).

The various local control units can be connected together using a communication cable to form a single smoke & heat extraction group.

Certificates
The local RWD 1a control system is highly suitable for use in situations where 24V motors with high power consumption are fitted, or where the large numbers of motors fitted cause high amperages per zone. The system has already been accredited in accordance with the ED 12101-10 and prEN 12101-9 standards.
