Spanish-Dutch sportsmanship

Last September, Brakel organised its first ever mini football tournament, in which three teams battled for glory: Tecresa from Madrid, Brakel Atmos and Brakel Aluminium. The excellent weather conditions and good humour of the participants helped create a perfect setting in which to become better acquainted with one another in a sporting context.

Team sport
Perhaps the most striking fact was that, once everyone took to the pitch in their own team strip, their positions in the field took priority to status within the company. Engineers, draughtsmen, production staff, technical specialists, managers and salespeople proceeded to pass smoothly to one another, while not flinching to tackle hard to prevent their opponents from scoring. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, although Francisco Martinez was almost stretchered off when he bruised his thumb.

Two winners
The fanatical members of the Brakel Atmos team had obviously been training hard together. This ultimately paid off, as their captain, Jeroen van den Berg, was presented with the winners’ trophy at the end of the day, by a highly professional and impartial (as he put it himself) referee, Guido. The fair play award went to Tecresa, who were immaculately turned out in their company shirts, and continued to battle for victory until the final whistle, despite the fact that they had had to leave home very early that morning.

Revenge
Once the tournament had been decided, the teams joined one another for a pleasant chat, while enjoying sumptuous snacks and drinks. The Spanish team’s striker, Ruben Melgar, promised that they would be out for revenge in 2010. We are already eagerly looking forward to this year’s event!
